Support for marriage is an important part of
what I look for in a candidate.
Today, the ideal, stabilizing model of marriage as one man is under an unrelenting attack.  As a voter in West Virginia, I cannot allow marriage to remain vulnerable to redefinition by a judge.

The Constitution of the State of West Virginia belongs to me.  And, though it permits me to vote on amendments to it, I understand that the legislature must first pass a resolution that allows me to protect marriage by using the democratic process - which they used to be elected.

Yet, even after a year of legislative study on this important topic, the legislature has failed to advance a legitimate reason to not let me participate in self-government.  Is their silence  opposition to the protection of marriage as one man and one woman?

I feel like my leaders just aren’t listening to me.

As I head to the polls in 2010, among the qualifications for office I will consider of any candidate - regardless of political party - is his or her willingness to let me govern myself by voting for marriage as one man and one woman.
